Why should I have a makeup trial?
I recommend a trial for two reasons. 1) It’s our only chance before your event to see if our partnership will be a good fit. All makeup artists have their own style and sometimes client and artist aren’t on the same page. A trial gives me the chance to meet and get to know you so that I can better meet your needs. 2) It makes the day-of application go more smoothly: If we’ve planned out your look already, I can use my time with you to apply your makeup with more precision and without rushing.
What type of product do you use and why don’t I see any name brands?
Although I do use name brands such as MAC, Bobbi Brown, Smashbox, etc. I also use many products that are only available to industry professionals-I am more concerned with performance as opposed to brand name. Some consumer products although great for everyday use do not show up well or true to color in photos and videos. Proper use of professional product ensures that you will look fantastic in person AND in your photos and that your makeup will last. Also, most of my product is re-potted into more workable pallets to save on space-you wouldn’t see the brand names. Technically, I could lie and name all the brands you want to hear but that’s not my style.
Why should I book you when I can book someone from Craigslist for 1/4 the price?
Simple. You get what you pay for. Experienced, legitimate artists invest a lot of time, money, blood, sweat and tears into their craft. We research and test products constantly and pick and choose based on how they look both in person and on film. This type of experience and knowledge base is what you are paying for, as well as equipment maintenance and product replenishment.
Do you charge mileage?
If I need to drive more than an hour from my home to get to you, yes.
Where will you travel?
I will go wherever you want me to. FYI sometimes I will bring a friend with me (at no cost to you) if I am unsure of the area.
How far in advance of the wedding should I book my trial?
Most professionals recommend finding an artist at least 6 months prior to your event.
When is my date officially considered ‘booked’?
I will notify you by email once I have received your deposit and signed contract.
What are some other helpful hints for bridal makeup that will help the day go more smoothly?
Provide me with a list a couple of days beforehand. I can make you a makeup itinerary that will help to keep us on schedule.
Don’t have any makeup on when you get in the chair. I have to remove it before I prep your face for application and you will learn that on your wedding day time is precious and goes by oh-so-fast!
Tell your party in advance what they should be prepared to pay and make sure they have exact change- it is time consuming to keep track of money and difficult to stay on schedule with so much going on. As the ‘person in charge’, your contract will state that you are ultimately responsible for the actions of your party. Getting all of the particulars out of the way before the day-of is very helpful to all of us.
Warn me in advance if you have a challenging person in your party (someone who is overly picky or hates makeup, has specific allergies, etc) - It’s always nice to have a head’s up if one of your friends or family members need a little more TLC from me.
Please do not offer my services to anyone in your party that will treat me disrespectfully. I reserve the right to refuse service to anyone displaying ‘Zilla (bridzilla/momzilla/maidzilla) tendencies.
